Welcome to Whitley Beaumont

A Scout Campsite Since 1924

OS: SE 205159 (LR110 EXP208)  Postcode HD8 0NA

Whitley Beaumont is ideally situated to offer Scouts, Guides and organised youth groups in the area an experience of near green field camping.

Seven distinct grassed camping areas provide ideal sites for groups to camp, or booked as a whole for larger District camps. The woodland areas also provide a further six or seven areas for backwoods style camping with bivvies.

Scouts have been camping here since before 1950, and acquired the site then to keep it for camping for Scouting. Unlike many other sites the management of Whitley Beaumont has always focussed on the essential Scouting skills of camping, campfire cooking, and backwoods skills. As a consequence, the site has retained a natural feel, despite being only a few miles from what was the heart of Yorkshires old textile industry.

Here at Whitley Beaumont we offer an ideal setting for traditional camps, overnight stops on training hikes, or as a base for running Naturalist courses or environmental projects. We welcome visitors to talk to us about how we can accommodate their programme needs.

A weekend at Whitley at almost any time of the year is likely to produce encounters, for the observant, with woodpeckers, kestrels, foxes, stoats, rabbits, squirrels, moles, voles and mice. Buzzards have nested close by and have hunted our parkland, and Peregrine Falcons have also been seen chasing prey in the skies above the site.

But it isn't just the larger species that we are home to. You will find a wide variety of flora and fauna throughout the site, and the pond is ideal for supervised pond-dipping.

If your ideal camp is sitting around the campfire embers whilst the kids go to sleep, and waking in the dawn with foxes barking and woodpeckers rattling at the trees, then you will find a natural home at Whitley Beaumont campsite.

Hall Revamp Nears Completion

The Cub Hut at Whitley Beaumont has long been a bone of contention as to whether it should be repaired or replaced. Well, we have renewed the hall, and those who recall the opaque windows, rotting frames, prison-like bars and the rather grotty floor, may well be stunned by the transformation.
Largely down to Kate Quinn, Mike and John Oldridge, and Cary Dowson,  the hall has new double-glazed windows, the walls have been repainted and the hall even has a spanking new non-slip floor.

Kitted out with a range of tables the hall can be used as a free floor space, or set out in various layouts for presentations, or workshops.

Additionally, there are a range of nature activity resources available mounted on holders on the wall.
